inaugural.

Well, hello there.  While I realize that posting photos of one's outfit is not so original (and I suppose dressing oneself is not so creative either!), here I am doing what so many before me have done.  Why?  First of all, I think I'd like to learn something from the experience of sharing some of my interests.  Second, I am audacious enough to think that I might have something small to contribute to the already thriving community of style blogs (preppy/quirky style? red hair? parenthetical statements?).  Third, I drive certain people in my life (ahem, boyfriend...) crazy with my incessant talk of "cute outfits" and "pretty photos" and "Isn't that so creative?!".  So, here I am.

And here are some photos of what I wore to work today:

cardigan: J. Crew, top: H&M, skirt: F21, wedges: Old Navy (seriously!), watch: Fossil (last year), nails: Essie Mint Candy Apple

Awkward smile?  Yep!

As you might be able to glean from these photographs, my place of employment has a rather relaxed dress code...er, rather...not really a written dress code at all.  Perhaps this would seem like a benefit to some, but for me it is a struggle.  I want to look put together and neat for the students and faculty I work with so that they respect me as a staff member, but I also want to look my age (27) and not like some twenty-something stuffed into dowdy work attire.

It got up to 85 degrees on this day, and I had a feeling the A/C would not yet be on in my building (whaddya know...I was right!), so I dressed in breathable layers.  A flash of a bright, cheery polka dots, a little wedge, and a simple top and I was ready to go.  Getting ready for work really can't be easier.

PS: I promise to get better at photographing things.  Seriously.

  1. I just have to say - I CAN RELATE! :) I just started my own fashion-style-blog for the same kind of reasons you have (um, I totally LOVE following everyone else's and it's so inspiring to see other's style!) and I too am not so good at the picture thing yet. Good luck on your blogging adventure - looking forward to seeing your style come to the interwebs!

    1. Thanks for your encouragement, Jamie! Your post from last Saturday sums up several of my questions/thoughts really well. I didn't do this for so long because it seemed selfish/narcissistic. However, I think it takes a lot of confidence to expose yourself in this way, and I have a goal for myself to increase that confidence as I go along. Can't wait to see what you share, too!
